Annual congress of the school of advanced technologies in medicine, 2018

The Annual Congress in the School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine (ATiM) is the main event of the department that takes place during wintertime each year. This congress offers a unique opportunity for presenting research and finding out what colleagues are doing in the fields of Biomedical Engineering. In addition, this congress provides a friendly and sociable context to meet colleagues from other departments and to formulate joint research projects. Participants included university professors, industrialists, students, and researchers in this field.
The Fourth Annual Congress held on 27–28 February and the related workshops continued during the following weeks. The congress was composed of:
- Lectures by well-known people in research and technology
- Student lectures and posters
- Workshop's
- Panel discussion about brain drain
- Competitions and student activities.
Prospective presenters who were mostly the students of the School of ATiM was asked to submit a short abstract of their presentation, which was reviewed first by referees to be decided as an oral or a poster presentation.
The 1st day began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Hossein Rabbani, dean of the school of ATiM from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences.
Then, in the ignite session, each selected paper as poster of all 25, had 2 min time to describe their posters to encourage the audience to be attended in their poster panel, which held on the same day evening from 2 to 4 pm, for further explanation and discussion.
Panel Discussion about “the 3rd Generation Universities” began after 30 min of break time. The panel speakers were consisted of Dr. Sh. Haghjoo, Dr. A. Zargar, Dr. Mohammad Beigi, Dr. S. Kermani, Mr. Shah Sanaei, and Mr. Soleimani. The panel was conducted to discuss how far our university is from the third generation universities and what policies should be applied to get closer to the main goals of the third generation universities.
Poster presentation session held in the afternoon of the 1st day from 2 to 4 pm. The achievements of each research group of the department were also represented simultaneously. These achievements were proposed in ten different booths as below:
- Medical instruments
- Biomaterial
- Cardiac image analysis
- Ocular image analysis
- Microscopic image analysis
- Bioinformatics
- Game and treatment
- Tissue engineering
- Smart materials
- Scoping data analysis.
The 1st day of congress ended with a snack break at 5 pm.
The 2nd day of congress started with oral presentation. Seven abstracts were selected as oral presentations, and a 10-min time is allocated to each of them.
Then, after a 30-min break time, a panel discussion with the topic of “Immigration and Brain Drain” started. The main speakers of panel were selected from university faculties, who had the experience of residing outside of Iran for a period of time. The leaders of the panel were Dr. H. R. Marateb, Dr, I. Adibi, and Dr. K. Jabbari. Some of the department's faculties as Dr. H. Rabbani and Dr. S. Karbasi also had an active role in the discussion. At the end of the session, an English writing letter competition had been organized through the students who were participated in the session. The winner is then awarded in the closing ceremony.
The closing ceremony started at 2 pm in the 2nd day of congress. It consisted of two parts. The first part began with a lecture of Dr. Z. Amini, head of the students' research committee of the department. Then, the best-selected papers as oral and poster were awarded according to the scores of referees. The best research group booth is also introduced and awarded based on the best contents and booth's design. In the end, the efforts of the members of the executive team were also appreciated.
The second part of the closing ceremony was the celebration of the graduated students of the department who were graduated since 2013–2018. Some photos of different sessions of the Congress are shown in [Figure 1], [Figure 2], [Figure 3], [Figure 4].
